Before You Finally Sleep

Walking up the steep sheer trail
I flopped down, all exhausted and frail.
Drenched with sweat, being chilled by the wind
Struggling to breathe in air so thinned
I looked up towards the path to be tread
"How would I do it ! "- I began to dread.
To reach the next stop on time
was all that I had on my mind.
But then I turned my gaze around
And there was so much more I found
Chirping of birds, humming of leaves
Soughing of wind and a feeling of peace
Serenely flowing of water in the creek
Enchanting view of the snowy peaks
The scent of the damp clayey soil
A scene so perfect as if it were a drawing
"Where was all this while I was walking?"
With my own heart, I then began talking.
"Why are you ignorant of the charm in journey ?
Walking dead towards aim, like Weekend At Bernie's"
"But I'm glad that you finally realized"
-In a soothing voice, my heart replied.
"The path has so many sights  to offer
If you do care enough to bother.
To sit back sometimes and enjoy the view
Rather than worrying about quest due.
What's money worth here in this wild ?
Same as the dull old evening of life
after a youth spent chasing the success.
Thinking it was your own pursuit of happiness
Only to realize it later with regret,
You lived your whole life as a marionette
driven by the passion to succeed.
To little joys of life, you paid no heed."
Taking a breath, he let out a sigh.
Finally expressing what this all implied.
"The gist of life isn't just to reach the goals.
But to enjoy the journey as it unfolds.
We all have a few promises to keep
But  make sure that you enjoy the miles
before you finally, eternally sleep".
